Jeff has been a Reference & Circulation Librarian at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, CO since 2007. His primary areas of interest are Integrated Library Systems and using screencasting technology to make learning tutorials for the library’s research databases.

“I think CoALA is an excellent vehicle for professional development for academic librarians. The association provides a conference and workshops in alternating years and has a three member peer-review panel to evaluate articles and presentations for academic quality. I will do my best to uphold the high standards of the association during my term as president.”

Lyda is an Instruction Librarian at the University of Northern Colorado.  She serves as the subject specialist for Criminal Justice and Philosophy.

Shelley Harper

Shelley has been a reference and instruction librarian at Pikes Peak Community College since 2009. She is the subject specialist for Social Sciences and one of the library’s information literacy instructors. In fall 2010, she started teaching a two-credit course on research strategies. Other interest areas include history, web design, and promotion of libraries. She grew up in Denver and has lived in the Midwest, Texas, and London.

Shelley served as the Community Colleges Representative to the CoALA Board for 2010-2011.

Paul Betty

Paul is the Distance Learning Librarian at Regis University. His interests include developing synchronous and asynchronous models for the delivery of online library services and resources, with a particular emphasis on the use of screencasting and digital video for instruction purposes.

Paul is committed to building exemplary library systems in the state and beyond, and places significant value in collaboration across libraries. He is a member and administrator of the Animated Tutorials Sharing Project, the Colorado Libraries Instruction Group (CoLIG), and is active as a presenter and attendee at state, regional, and national library conferences. 

He is a native of Colorado, born and raised in Denver. Like many of this great states’ citizens, he enjoys the ample opportunities for summer and winter outdoor recreation.

Carole Olds

Carole began her book career with B.Dalton Booksellers and Barnes & Noble stores until switching gears to earn an MLS through Emporia State University. Graduating in 2004, she began working at the Air Force Academy Hospital as their medical librarian. When the medical library closed due to an Air Force consolidation of medical libraries, she was able to remain in Colorado Springs working at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs as the Director of Libraries. Along with the rewards and challenges of academic library life, she is honored to be the chapter advisor at PPCC for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Martin Garner

Martin Garnar is the Reference Services Librarian at Regis University in Denver, CO.  He also teaches professional ethics for the University of Denver’s library and information science program, of which he is a proud alumnus.   Martin is a past president of the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) and, in addition to his service on the CoALA board, is currently a member of the CAL Intellectual Freedom and Legislative committees.  He is also the chair of the American Library Association’s Committee on Professional Ethics.  A native of New York, Martin lives in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood with his partner Mark and their impossibly cute miniature dachshunds.
