Spring Workshop 2009The Spring Workshop of the Colorado Association of Special Libraries (CoASL) met at the American Alpine Club Library in Golden, Colorado, on Friday, April 3, 2009, as 8:30am. President Stephen Sweeney welcomed the attendees and announced that the registration was up 35% then last year’s workshop, with 34 registrants. A welcome form Jody Howard, President of Colorado Association of Libraries’(CAL) followed before the Social Networking Panel began. The panel was made up of representatives from the U.S. Courts Library, University of Denver Library, Platt College, Washington Resources, and the American Alpine Club Library. Concepts discussed included the benefits of using social networking to market libraries, collaborate projects, make announcements to library board members, patrons, and staff, and enhancing the use of libraries. The attendees also were treated to a virtual presentation of Second Life from the Mancos Public Library. After a tasty lunch, the workshop resumed with presentations from the United States Geological Survey Central Region Library and a one hour outdoor presentation of hands-on training of hand-held GPS units, presented by the Global Positioning Systems. Attendees were invited to a tour of the American Alpine Club Library before leaving for the day. Workshop Committee includes: Stephen Sweeney, Victoria West-Pawl, Jenny Stevens, and Julie Cavender.
