The Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award recognizes the most popular books among middle and high school students in the State of Colorado. Teens nominate their favorite titles and select the winner - adults do not vote. General Blue Spruce Nominations Flier/Poster in Word Blue Spruce LabelsBlue Spruce labels are available for all interested parties. The winning book should be labeled each year after the award is announced in February. The award logo was designed by Laura Johnson in 2002. Blue Spruce winning labels can be requested from Jenna Obee at no charge. The labels are a silver and blue version of the graphic at the top of this page. 2009 Nomination Labels - Print these on labels that are 1" wide by 1.5" tall. If the spines of your books are getting too full to use the big stickers, you can try this option: Purchase a small tree-shaped paper punch from your craft store, and use it to punch little trees out of blue paper (blue for Blue Spruce). Write the year (ex: 06) in the middle of the tree, and tape this on the spine of the nominated books. Thanks to Elaine from Mesa County Public Library District for that great idea! Traveling Book SetsTraveling book sets are available to all interested parties. If you don't want to tie up circulation of your library's copies, or if you don't have a budget for multiple copies of all the titles, this is a great way to do a quick and easy display! We will send you, free of charge via courier, a complete set of the Blue Spruce nominees as well as booktalks for each title. Sets may be kept for three weeks and the borrower is responsible for arranging for return courier at the end of the loan period. In February, when the new list of nominees has been announced, the two old traveling book sets will be donated to two participating schools. For more information about traveling book sets, or to schedule a delivery, contact Barb Kellogg at bkellogg@jeffco.k12.co.us Mackin Library/Classroom Services has donated one set of books. Notice to Publishers and AuthorsWe greatly appreciate your interest in adolescent literacy and the Colorado Blue Spruce Book Award. Colorado's 400,000 middle and high school students, however, are responsible for nominating titles each year. Adults have no say in the matter, other than general bookkeeping. As such, there is no way for publishers to submit their titles for consideration and our participant list is not made available to ensure privacy.More InformationSponsoring OrganizationsThe Blue Spruce Award Committee would like to thank the following organizations for sponsoring Colorado's teen book award:
