|Welcome and Introductions: Meet the board members of the CATS Division and connect with your fellow Western Slope colleagues. Hear about what the year has in store for us.

Common Grounds Café: Durango Public Library Director Sandy Irwin and Durango School District 9-R’s Pathways to Independence Program Coordinator Devon Parson will tell us how the library’s collaboration with the school district began and how it all works together to bring coffee and pastries to library patrons and Durango community members while providing essential life skills for 9-R’s students.

Librarians as Mentors and Role Models: Discuss what it takes to be role models and mentors for our youth today. Learn best practices and hear some inspiring stories from local climbing legend Marcus Garcia, coach of the Durango-based national youth climbing team, Team Durango; an accomplished professional climber in his own right; and owner of The Rock Lounge. We might even be lucky enough to hear what it means from the mentee point of view as well!

How to Support English Learner (EL) Patrons in Your Community –
Kelly von Stroh, Animas Valley Elementary ELL Teacher, and Libby Baumchen, Durango Adult Education Center ESL/Volunteer Program Coordinator, will walk us through the steps we need to take and important things we should consider when serving our EL patrons. Be prepared to walk away with a plan for serving your EL patrons in new ways that will help your community and make the library a special place for everyone!
