The primary mission of the CAL Readers' Advisory Interest Group is to foster interest in readers' advisory and to help librarians improve their readers' advisory skills. Secondarily, the group will assist librarians in the promotion of literature and reading in their communities. In support of this mission, the Readers' Advisory Interest Group will provide continuing education to members and create opportunities for members to share information and resources.
Reader's Advisory Spring Workshop

10:00 am -11:00 am – State of
the State: Jessi Barrientos and Amy Hall Present their findings from
a survey presented to librarians regarding Reader’s Advisory Services provided
by Colorado Libraries.
11:00am -12:00 pm – Work
shopping: Reader’s Advisory Questions. Groups will work at tables,
discussing tools they would use and recommendations they would provide for a
variety of Advisory Questions.
12:00 pm-1:00 pm - Lunch:

1:00 pm -2:30 pm - PB&J:
Melissa Della Penna and Carol Unwin present tools and tactics for helping with
those tough children’s advisory questions, from finding the correct lexile to
discovering challenging but age-appropriate books for kids
3:00pm – 4:00pm Getting
to Know Local Publisher Reps: Representatives from Penguin/Random House,
Macmillan, and Norton will present from their upcoming lists, then will hang
out to network with librarians. Get to know your reps!
